Olayan Alwetaid is a Saudi business executive who was appointed as the CEO of stc Group in March 2021. Throughout his career journey with stc Group, he played several crucial roles, including Senior Vice President of the Consumer Business Unit and CEO of stc Bahrain. He also presided as the chairman of several of stc’s subsidiaries’ boards.

Under his guidance, stc Group solidified its position as a prominent telecom operator in the MENA region and emerged as a dynamic force in the digital arena. Alwetaid is continuing to drive the company’s scale and scope expansion into adjacent sectors including leading big bets in Fintech, the Internet of Things (IoT), cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), and data centers. This expansion [supplemented with several inorganic deals, including acquiring stake in Telefonica Group, highlights a significant shift from the traditional confines of the telecom industry.

Alwetaid’s educational background in electrical engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals serves as the bedrock for his professional expertise. His international influence is evident through his positions as Chairman of the SAMENA Telecommunications Council, a board member of the GSMA, and a board member of the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST).
