Jean-Yves Charlier was appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of VEON in April 2015. VEON is an international communications and technology company with more than 200 million customers across 14 markets. VEON’s vision is to be a pioneer, working at the frontier to unlock new opportunities for customers as they navigate the digital world.
Prior to his appointment at VEON, Jean-Yves was the Chairman and Chief Executive of SFR, the second largest telecom operator in France up to the end of 2014. Leading up to his role at SFR, Jean-Yves Charlier was Head of Telecoms and a member of the Vivendi Management Board where he developed and led the strategy for the demerger of SFR in a €17 billion transaction with cable operator Numericable. From 2007 to 2012, he was Chief Executive of Promethean, an interactive learning company, and from 2004 to 2007 he headed up Colt, an alternative carrier in Europe. He started his career with Wang in France and also held senior executive positions with Equant and BT Global Services. Jean-Yves Charlier has been on the board of several other listed companies including Activision Blizzard and Vivendi.
He holds an M.B.A. from the Wharton Business School.
